People often ask me why I combine nutrition with mindset coaching. The answer goes back much further than most people realise.
After school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. I wanted to work and study part-time, so I could take a trip with my sisters after 12 months (pretty sure I just invited myself onto that trip!). I got a traineeship with a bank, started an arts degree, and majored in psychology because the bank would pay for it.
I loved learning about how people thought and what made them tick. That curiosity led me into HR, then a career in graduate recruitment and project management. Along the way came marriage, kids and plenty of life experience.
Until I decided it was time for a change.
I’d always been interested in health and nutrition, so when I found a Health Science degree in Nutrition, it felt like the perfect path. I finished the degree, set up my own business, and started helping women and teens with food and lifestyle support.
My degree had touched briefly on the psychology of eating — counselling, interpersonal skills, motivational questioning. As my business grew, I realised there was a key piece missing.
I can tell people what to eat. How to plan healthy meals. How to get enough protein, fibre, healthy fats. I can give them all the data on nutrients and vitamins and minerals. I can run the tests — hair tissue mineral analysis, DNA, stool tests, pathology. Assess the results, prescribe supplements, monitor and review.
And yet.
Something was missing.
Meanwhile, I was training in neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and communication – partly to improve my own mindset, partly to better support my clients. As I explored what mindset shifts actually looked like, and experienced my own breakthroughs, I realised I was evolving into a different version of myself. Calmer, more intentional.
(Ask my kids. They’ll tell you I was more relaxed. Our conversations were more engaging, there was less nagging.)
That’s when I realised nutrition was only part of the picture. Mindset was the missing piece that turned healthy habits into lasting change.
Only when people are willing to lean in – to look below the surface at their underlying stories and beliefs, to explore their own self-sabotaging patterns, and then do “the work” to move forward – do we see lasting change.
Not just change. Transformation.
Transformation that doesn’t happen overnight. It builds in increments, week to week, month to month. Putting the pieces together. Letting go of old beliefs. Building trust in themselves. Growing into new and improved versions of themselves.
Not the best version – because we’re always evolving. The best version they can be here and now, with the capacity to grow into whatever comes next.
The adults and teenagers I work with – over 3, 6, 12 months – give themselves permission to explore, to grow.
Yes, nutrition is fundamental to living a healthy life.
Mindset is what makes that healthy life last.
Here’s what that means for you.
If you work with me, you don’t just get nutrition advice. You get the chance to build the mindset you deserve.
It won’t happen overnight.
It will happen – if you lean in, stay open, and commit to yourself.
Because lasting transformation doesn’t come from changing what’s on your plate. It comes from changing the way you think, the way you choose, and the way you show up for yourself every day.
